Razer Athleisure Instinct Collection Review
I never thought I’d be here reviewing fitness clothing but here I am! For some context, aside from being a gamer and working full-time at IGN, I’m also a powerlifter and part-time streamer. So comfort in clothing is really important to me, especially if clothing is going to be advertised as athleisure - a mix between everyday and fitness capable clothes. I was given Razer’s new Instinct Collection to review for free (women’s clothing and a duffel bag) so let’s jump into it.
The Clothes
I was given an early shipment of the women’s leggings, sports bra, tank top, and duffel bag. Here are the features laid out for me to keep in mind as I tested the clothes out.
Made for fitness needs or every day wear
Use of two and four way stretch fabric to enhance performance through freedom of movement and breathability; allowing a non-restrictive fit that still conforms to the wearer
Lightweight and sweat-wicking materials for everyday comfort and use
Create a bespoke style and fit by pairing it with other items or on its own; providing versatility for all-day wear, from the streets to the gym
Looks amazing, feels even better with the use of soft-to-touch materials
I’ll break down the review by going through these bullet points. I wore the sports bra and leggings to the gym for a 50 minute workout session including deadlifts. The sports bra had a lot of support and decent padding to last through a cardio-heavy workout and felt a lot like a normal running sports bra. It was really comfortable to wear throughout the hour I spent working out and it also wicked my sweat up incredibly well. It has has cute green straps on the back crisscrossing with Razer’s “For Gamers, By Gamers” tagline.
The leggings were also really comfortable and had a lot of generous stretch to the fabric. I did put the leggings through deadlifts so they are definitely squat-proof, something I know is important to me and other ladies at the gym. The fabric on the leggings was decently thick but not too thick to make you feel like you’re sweating your ass off at the gym. Well, not any more than you should be. I did have to note that the leggings weren’t quite thick enough to hide pantylines unless you’re wearing seamless underwear. I know most people wear seamless but not everyone does so I tested it out with seamless and normal.
While the leggings aren’t high-waisted with tummy control, the stretch in the waistline was pretty generous and I didn’t feel uncomfortable wearing low waist leggings for once. The material is super soft and even the tank top felt sleek and soft to the touch. The tank top was a bit loose around my ribcage but I think if I size down it would fit me a little better. It was still extremely comfy to wear and I really liked the stripe of green going down the back.
Because the leggings, top, and sports bra are all black with green accents, you can pretty much match up the clothes with any combination and easily wear them every day. I personally phased out jeans and opt for stretchy, legging-like pants for every day clothing outside of the gym so I’ll definitely be wearing this outside of workouts.
The Bag
Now I have to preface this bag review by stating that I am not a huge fan of duffel bags. I always feel like I have to shift the shoulder strap around to make it feel like my back isn’t crooked from holding the weight unevenly and holding a duffel bag by the straps is always a bit annoying especially when it gets too heavy. But the Razer duffel bag was so stylish that I wanted to make it work. I took it to the gym straight out the box and loaded it up with my weight lift belt, chalk (yes it’s an Animal Crossing bell bag), headphones, wallet, and my additional fraction weights (0.75, 0.25, 0.50, and 1.0 lbs plates).
The duffel bag held everything perfectly and I felt pretty stylish walking into my gym. The fabric on the bag is pretty sleek so it’s easy to wipe it down after placing it on the floor if you get any chalk or other substance on it. The bag held everything I needed it to hold and had so much more space left in it too. While this bag is going to become my new gym bag, you could definitely use this as an overnight travel bag with a few days worth of clothing stuck into it too, and shoes.
The only downside to this bag was the side bags. The mesh side bags are very sturdy and could hold your water bottle but the little tightening straps are a bit flimsy. One of the straps ended up breaking and it was just from me pulling on the strap to tighten the mesh pocket some more. I didn’t pull it very hard and the weight of the combined fraction weights on each side were only equal to 2.5 lbs which would be about the weight of a water bottle with water stuck in the pockets. The weight in the pockets weren’t stressing the strap either since the strap snapped while the bag was on the floor.
But even without the strap tightener, the mesh pocket works fine and still holds its own elasticity. I was just a bit bummed that the first trip to the gym resulted in one of the pocket straps getting busted. Looking at the little tightener strap, I think it may have arrived frayed already but I’m not entirely sure. Either way, it’s something to keep an eye on if you’re considering getting the duffel bag. The bag itself was fantastic and I’ll continue to use it for my daily gym runs and probably travel as well.
Final Thoughts
Razer’s Athleisure Instinct Collection is something to consider if you’re looking for more casual, sporty, comfy clothing to wear both to the gym and anywhere else. The clothing fabric is soft and comfy for long hours of casual wear and gym time and is extremely stretchy and breathable. The Razer duffel bag is roomy, easy to hold/carry, and looks sleek and sporty. While the side mesh pockets could be a bit sturdier, the bag as a whole is very handy and nice to carry around the gym and will function well for short trip travel as well. Overall, the Instinct Collection is a solid entry into mixing gaming and athletic-wear that features comfortable and quality clothing and gear for everyone.
